Today we travelled the 100 miles from Springfield, Illinois to St Louis, Missouri. Today is a special day as it is the fourth of July and America is celebrating. Every where we went we saw flags flying and people cooking with barbecues on their porch with family and friends.

Springfield is the home of Abraham Lincoln and our first stop was at his tomb where we spotted this young boy that had dressed up like Abraham Lincoln. If you rub the nose of the statue it is meant to be lucky. After this we went to the Abraham Lincoln museum where we learnt about his life story and what he did for America.

We drove on some very old parts of Route 66 today and some were even paved with bricks.

On this stretch of 66 the locals obviously didn't have much to get excited about as turkey tracks left in the concrete seemed to be a big deal.

One of the roadside giants we saw today was at a rabbit ranch. There were real rabbits, there were Rabbit cars (VW Golf) and a 9 foot tall model rabbit.

St Louis was celebrating the fourth of July with an open air concert and firework display in the city park. We were lucky to be in the city when this was happening as it was a fantastic event. The firework display was the biggest we'd ever seen.
