Day 28 - Palm DesertPalm Springs is at the bottom of a valley surrounded by mountains and this causes a constant breeze to be created. This is one of the reasons that it is a good place to visit for vacation as you get the sun and cool breeze.
They have taken advantage of this wind by installing wind turbines in every open space possible. One of the attractions is a cable car that has the unique feature of rotating 360 degrees as it goes up and down. At the top it is 7000 feet so provided good views of the valley below. Palm Spring's boom time was in the 50s and 60s when anyone that was rich and famous had a home here. Each tried to outcompete themselves on the style of their house and therefore Palm Springs has the largest collection of modernist buildings in the whole world. We did a self drive tour of the main properties. This was Elvis Presley's honeymoon home. This was Frank Sinatra's holiday home. Comments
